
Dr Richard McNeil-Willson is Alwaleed Lecturer of Global Muslim Studies at the Islamic and Middle East Studies department, University of Edinburgh, Visiting Fellow at Georgetown University, and Honorary Fellow at Aston University.
His work focuses on critical approaches to counterterrorism and counterextremism, including recent and on-going research on counterterror proscription, Islamophobia, and state repression of activism in a European context.
He has formerly held full-time academic positions at Leiden University and the European University Institute, as well as visiting positions at the universities of Cambridge, Aarhus and Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa.
